VF TESTING
The Home menu can be accessed at anytime during operation
by pressing the Home key on the rubber keypad. The screen is
divided into three presentation areas:
Left
Middle
Right
Home Menu
LEDs: Displays soft LEDs associated with Errors
and Alarms
Tools: IP connection status, Advanced IP features
(Net Wiz, WiFi Wiz, VoIP, and IPTV applications),
Fiber Scope, ReVeal EZ Connect
Utilities: Applications (Help, Settings, Files) which
are common to all VePAL handheld test sets
Test Applications specic to the test set (DS1, DS3,
SONET, Ethernet, Fiber Channel, 3.072G Testing,
Advanced Mode)
Start/Stop
Err Inj/Alarm: Tap to insert an error or alarm
Alarm/Err: Pull down menu with buttons for alarm
generation and error injection
DS1 Loop: Activate the loopback




1. Connect to the DS1 test interface using the Bantam connectors
2. Power on the unit
3. From the DS1 Home menu, tap on the Setup menu
4. Congure the Measurements and General settings
Conguration
5. Congure the DS1 VF Tasks. From the DS1 Tools screen,
tap DS1 VF Tasks. From the VF menu, a variety of talk/listen
functions can be performed.
Note: Do not attempt
to enter VF Tasks if the
Frame LED is not green.

Setup
−Time Slot - Channel to test for both transmitting and
receiving: Options: 1 - 24
−Mode – Talk or send a Tone on the transmit signal.
Transmit audio data from the external headset into
selected timeslot.
−Code - Options: u-Law or A-Law
−Transmitted Frequency - Options: 50 to 3950Hz
−Transmitted Level - Options: -60 to 3dBm
−ABCD - Options ON-HOOK, OFF-HOOK, WINK, User
(Manually set). Change the signaling bits transmitted with
the associated transmit channel. In SF-D4 framing these
will be A/B and ESF framing will place that signal onto the
A/B/C/D position.
Setup and Results
Results
−Measure signal frequency and level in selected timeslot
−Listen to the voice channel in selected timeslot via
external headset.
−ABCD: View the received Channel Associated Signaling
System (CAS) bits.
−Data: View the live 8-bit channel data as it is received from
the selected channel. ABCD bits monitor and view data in
selected T/S channel.
